So why a relaxer you may ask? I guess I was old enough and getting ready to start high school. My Mother, and two older sisters stylist, Sybil, put in my first relaxer. She was the only stylist that touched my hair. She was great, always concerned with the health of our hair. She knew if we strayed away from the "routine" or dabbled in crazy products. All she would say is, you need to stop doing that or throw that away. She moved locations several times, but wherever she went, we went. We were not "shop hoppers" and until I went natural I stuck with that same concept...if it's not broke then don't fix it. I thank her for making healthy hair the main focus...which in turn I stand by. If it's not healthy, then what's the point.
My relaxed life was much of same...regular washing, deep conditioning and little manipulation. My hair has been every length. I tried all types of hairstyles, rinses and got highlights once. I mainly wore my hair wrapped. After I washed my hair, I'd curl my hair. I wrapped it nightly for the rest of the week. I fell in love with the "look" of natural hair, when I straw set my hair. I loved how full and big my hair was when I separated the curls. The older the style got the more I liked it...but never thought to go natural.
Fast forward to 2007...I was pregnant with my daughter and after not finding any sure answer on if the chemicals affected my child, I decided to stop relaxing. I loved my hair, the texture as the relaxer was growing out. Why I thought having relaxed hair would be easier after I had my daughter...I don't know. I relaxed my hair one month after my daughter was born. That was the last time...never to look back. I transitioned for a year and a half. October 2008 I got the rest of the relaxer cut off.

I love, love, love my hair. I love the texture. I love the versatility. I love the way it makes me feel. I feel unique. I feel beautiful. Friends and strangers ask me about my hair and haircare all the time. I talk about hair all the time....hence the birth of
